Is Goldberg Eyeing Another WWE Return?
And is Gunther next?
WWE Bad Blood 2024 was full of WWE Legends in attendance, and one just happened to be in his hometown of Atlanta, GA, former World Heavyweight Champion Bill Goldberg. He sat ringside with his son, Gage, who recently committed to play football for Deion Sanders in Colorado.
During a live segment, Current World Heavyweight Champion Gunther took a verbal jab at the WWE Hall of Famer, calling him a "one-trick pony," quickly escalating into a heated exchange. And this isn't the first time Goldberg's name has come to the surface from the leader of Imperium.
WWE RAW segment with Bret 'Hitman' Hart
Earlier last month, on the 09/09/2024 episode of WWE RAW, live from The Hitman's hometown of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Hart was confronted by Gunther during an in-ring segment. Gunther praised Hart as one of his favourite wrestlers growing up, which quickly turned into a not-so-subtle troll when Gunther claimed his real favourite was Bill Goldberg.
But this wasn't just any troll—it cut deeper, given the well-known Bad Blood (pun intended) between Hart and Goldberg. Bret Hart has been outspoken about his disdain for Goldberg, particularly referencing Goldberg's carelessness and wrestling ability, who Hart blames for his career-ending injury at WCW Starcade in 1999.
WWE Bad Blood Press Conference
At the post-event press conference, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque 'Triple H' didn't shy away from the topic of Goldberg's potential return. "Atlanta loves Bill Goldberg, and that's why he was here tonight." Triple H would also add, "I would never say never."
Just days after WWE Bad Blood, Triple H posted to his X account again, showing footage of Goldberg and himself talking backstage during the event and adding to the caption, "We'll talk more very soon…"
What's Next for Goldberg?
Every return feels like it could be the last for a legend like Goldberg, who's already cemented his legacy in WWE history. But with the reaction he got at WWE Bad Blood and how his segment with Gunther unfolded, it feels like Goldberg might have one more match in him. Whether to settle the score with Gunther or make another statement at the upcoming WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, fans might be asking, "Who's next?"
