Motor City Machine Guns Debut on WWE SmackDown
Veteran Tag Team makes long-awaited WWE debut
During last night's episode of WWE Smackdown, the Motor City Machine Guns made their WWE debut in a triple-threat tag team match against A-Town Down Under and Los Garza. The team of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin would go on to win their debut match, advancing them in the WWE Tag Team Title No. 1 Contenders Tournament.
The Motor City Machine Guns (MCMG) have a long history as a pro wrestling tag team. Shelley and Sabin started teaming up in Pro Wrestling Zero1-Max in 2006, defeating Minoru Fujita and Ikuto Hidaka to win the Zero-1 Max International Lightweight Tag Team Championships.
They officially debuted under the Motor City Machine Guns name for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in 2007. At the time, they had full-time contracts with TNA, but TNA requested their wrestlers stop taking bookings with certain independent wrestling promotions.
Over the following 16 years, they would perform Ring of Honor (ROH), New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), and Impact Wrestling, capturing Tag Team Championships with each promotion.
WWE Tag Team Division Heating Up
The WWE has recently been paying more attention to its tag team divisions. Earlier this year, rumours circulated about The Lucha Bros (AEW's Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fénix) potential signing with World Wrestling Entertainment as well.
Shelley and Sabin of the MCMG have had a long road to getting their time on WWE television. It will be interesting to see how they get booked moving forward.
